Kids Film Competition

The two children’s programmes clearly demonstrate what animated film is capable of and are thus an ideal introduction to this highly diverse genre.

A pig and a cow skating (“Hoofs on Skates”), a peculiar plasticine creature gleefully stuffing its face with food from a vending machine (“Enjoy Your Meal”), and a malformed piece of wood in search of some sort of connection (“Twig”). These are just three of the many scenarios awaiting you in this year’s two programmes for our young viewers. At first glance, the films appear to be all fun and frolics, typical animated films.

At second glance, however, it soon becomes clear that these fantastical and, in some cases, downright absurd stories deal with very serious topics.

For example, the three films mentioned above tell of prejudice and exclusion as well as the overexploitation of nature. It is precisely this assumed harmlessness that allows animated films to address serious topics much more directly than real films do – especially for a young audience.
